Who We Are

In today’s rapidly evolving digital era, transformation in the fields of literacy and humanities has become a necessity. Technology has reshaped the ways in which people access, process, and disseminate information. Digitalization opens new opportunities for research, education, and cultural preservation, while also presenting challenges in adapting to and optimally utilizing technology.

University of Teuku Umar (UTU), as a higher education institution oriented toward the development of knowledge and innovation, recognizes the importance of literacy and digital humanities in addressing contemporary challenges. With the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and the digitalization of documents and historical archives, an interdisciplinary approach is required to connect studies of literacy, culture, history, language, and digital technology.

In response to this, UTU established the Literacy and Digital Humanities Research Center as a research hub focusing on literacy, the development of technology in the humanities, and the use of digital data to analyze various social and cultural phenomena. This center is expected to serve as a platform for academics, researchers, and students to explore various aspects of literacy and digital humanities, thereby advancing understanding and innovation in this field.

The establishment of this research center is driven by the need to improve literacy among the public, particularly in Aceh and Indonesia more broadly. As a university rooted in local values yet globally oriented, UTU is committed to harnessing digital technology to enrich humanities studies and to support education and research policies that are data- and technology-driven.

Through this research center, it is expected that innovative studies will emerge that contribute to the advancement of knowledge, educational policy, and the application of digital technology in humanities scholarship at both the national and international levels
